Hopling Technologies announces the deployment of Amsterdam
Hopling Technologies, the world-leading provider of wireless meshed network solutions today announced the deployment of a wireless metropolitan network in the City of Amsterdam.
The wireless broadband network is owned and operated by HotSpot Amsterdam and is fully operational. The first phase of the seamless network covers the 4 inner canals of Amsterdam and brings mobile wireless network access to the City of Amsterdam. The network is designed by Hotspot Amsterdam with support by NUBLU Technologies and uses Hopling Technologies’ superior mesh networking technology, which provides seamless access anywhere anytime anyplace within the coverage zone. The wireless network in the City of Amsterdam is based on Hopling Technologies’ wireless meshed network solution, specially designed for robust outdoor use in demanding metropolitan environments. The first phase of the wireless network in the center of Amsterdam is based on 20 outdoor Hopling mark-II dual-band nodes and one Hopbase management radius server.
Every Hopling mark-II dual-band node employs an innovative method for routing IP packets between nodes. It allows these nodes to pass these packets through their neighbors to nodes with which they cannot directly communicate. A Hopling mark-II mesh router is also able to handle changes in routes and can create new routes if it encounters an error. The seamless network provides VPN security and additional access security. HotSpot Amsterdam low cost and easy access network in the center of Amsterdam is accessible via standard WiFi 802.11 client devices. With the successful deployment of the network, each subscriber now has access to true mobile broadband connectivity.
“Hotspot Amsterdam is actively engaged in the creation of the first true Wifi City in Europe. With the choice of Hopling Technologies mesh network solution, and the initial deployment of 20 Hopling mark-II mesh routers a significant proportion of the 4 inner canals of Amsterdam are now Wifi enabled. With our current deployment plan over the coming 6 months we expect to deploy somewhere in the region of a further 100 nodes to give complete coverage to the center of Amsterdam. It is the commitment of Hotspot Amsterdam to enable anyone within Amsterdam to have easy, affordable, and reliable connection to the Internet where they want and when they want”, according to a spokesman of HotSpot Amsterdam. “The roaming agreement signed with Trustive allows trustive alliance consumers access to our network. Further roaming agreements will be completed in the future.”
David Fox, MD of NUBLU Technologies said: “This is certainly one of the most innovative metropolitan networks in operation in Europe. We are proud to have contributed our expertise to put this network solution to life. It gives the people in Amsterdam complete mobility and a true wireless alternative to phone line based subscription broadband services. Hotspot Amsterdam will surely be one of the first Metropolitan Wireless service networks, which will start a landslide change in consumer behavior for broadband subscription moving from phone line, based services to wireless. We are currently involved in network design and planning for numerous further cities in Europe, which we will announce shortly.”
Frank Koopman, CEO of Hopling Technologies added: “Hopling Technologies is committed in helping HotSpot Amsterdam continue to expand its metropolitan network throughout Amsterdam. Our centralized Hopbase management server and telco-grade Hopling mark-II outdoor mesh routers provide the coverage, flexibility, roaming and management capabilities needed to achieve this ambitious goal.”
HotSpot Amsterdam plans to continue working with Hopling Technologies to further expand its seamless network throughout Amsterdam. Announcements of future deployments are expected over the next several months
